The remainder of Algeria’s top-flight 2019-20 Ligue 1 season has been scrapped, with the current standings recognized as final.
This is according to the Algerian Football Federation.
The move sees CR Belouizdad set to be declared as champions, while the bottom pair of NA Hussein Dey and NC Magra will be spared relegation.
Instead, Ligue 1 will expand from 16 teams to 20 for 2020-21, with the top four from Ligue 2 – Olympique Medea, JSM Skikda, WA Tlemcen and RC Relizan – being promoted.
Belouizdad will be joined by ES Setif in representing the country in the CAF Champions League next season, while MC Alger qualify for the Confederation Cup.
Algeria’s Ligue 1 was suspended in March due to the coronavirus pandemic and the Federation held a ballot to determine the future of the uncompleted season.
90 percent of the votes cast were in favor of ending the season without relegation.96 out of 112 members participated in the vote.
