In the Democratic Republic of Congo, hundreds of protesters are demanding the dissolution of parliament. The demonstrations in Kinshasa were organised by the Catholic Church. The reasons behind are many but the main thing being that the country’s parliament is blocking meaningful reforms.
It is not the first time the Catholic Church influences against the Congo government. Catholic Church, commands the loyalty of about half the 80 Million DRC’s population. The church have had scuffles with Congo’s Ex-President Joseph Kabila in the past too.
The Church interfered by forcing Kabila to step down. The Ex-President had seemed reluctant to step down after giving the promise to do so. People have died in the Catholic organized protests in the past, where 5 people once died in 2018 as the protesters crashed with security forces.
