Alot has been said about Kenya’s Deputy President, William Ruto. The President supporters trash him while his supporters tag him the hustler’s President.
He has been tagged loyal for supporting the President through two elections. Both successful. He has also been tagged defiant. But let’s look at some real actual facts that might explain his character.
Hustler
In stories, he was once a small businessman majoring in selling poultry. This shows he has come a long way. He is a certified hustler.
Land Grabbing
His long way to wealth has also come with a lot of cases surrounding him. The country recognizes him as a certified land grabber. They nicknamed him “Arap Mashamba”.
Abuse of Power
The deputy president has been taken to court by one of Kenya’s county governments. He was charged with diverting the county’s water supply to his own land.
Election interference
During the country’s 2017 elections, the Deputy President was accused of interfering with the election results. The accusations came from a number of politicians including Members of Parliament, Women Representatives and Governors.
Defiance of state protocol
One of the President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directives after the 2017 elections was the cessation of campaigns. His idea was for the politicians to concentrate more on delivering the Kenyan dream. Defiantly, his Deputy has Campaigned day and night since then. The President was left alone on his path to the realization of Vision2030.

The Deputy President’s wife has been recognized as a prayerful lady. Nevertheless, his husband has not been short of clandestine scandals. The major media houses has tabled his extra marital affairs a number of times. His overall loyalty comes to question when his marriage is keenly observed.

His general life story reminds me of the axe and forest story. The trees kept voting for the axe because they believed he was one of them. The axe kept cutting down the trees until there was no longer any tree left standing.
