President Uhuru Kenyatta’s request for a UN medical treatment facility in Nairobi has come to life. The Sh1.1 Billion facility comes as a strategic partnership between the UN and Nairobi Hospital. The facility was born after a conversation between the President and the UN’s Secretary-General.
The President termed his request as “Kenya’s duty to the United Nations and the whole region”. Kenya has always acted as the medical centre for the whole region.
The financial support also comes with world class specialized equipment. The hospital will serve over 20,000 UN staff based in Africa. The families of the UN staff and the locals shall also be offered service in the hospital.
The facility will have an operating theatre, laboratory, radiology and a pharmacy. The facility will be a huge boost to Nairobians. It shall be Kenyan built and run. The treatment facility is to be completed in eight weeks.
There will be specialist equipment and additional hospital beds. This shall enable a more effective approach for Kenya against the Covid-19 pandemic.
