A police officer attached to the office of the Deputy President has committed suicide in Ngeria, Uasin Gishu County.
According to a report in a local daily, Too’s family said he jumped into the dam at 9am on Friday from what could be a result of job-related stress.
He had apparently misplaced a camera belonging to the Deputy President Press Service three days ago.
“He has been under pressure to explain how the camera he had in his possession got lost,” his brother Aaron Sing’oei said as quoted by Standard Digital.
The body was retrieved from the dam on Friday afternoon with police indicating that investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of death.
In September 2019, another staffer at the office of the DP –Anthony Kariuki— was killed in an accident on Outering Road in Nairobi.
Reports indicate that Mr. Kariuki was crossing the road on his way home at around 10pm when he was hit by a tour van.
In February last year, Kipyegon Kenei—a police officer who worked at the Harambee Annex office—was murdered.
Investigators said the officer was drugged before he was shot through the chin. The lone bullet exited from the top of his head, killing him instantly.
Kenei was found dead at his house Imara Daima area in Nairobi, just as he prepared to record a statement with the DCI on what he knew about the fictitious Ksh.39 billion tender said to have been signed at Harambee House Annex.
The officer was in charge on the day ex-Sports CS Rashid visited DP Ruto’s office long before it emerged that he was smack in the middle of the scam.
Nine persons of interest have since been interrogated over the murder.
They include four from the office of the deputy president, three from the Department of Defense and two from a mobile operating company, said to have taken part in erasing data from Kenei’s phone.
