Tunisia was the main olive oil exporter in the world, outside the European Union, for the 2019-2020 campaign.
This is according to the president of the Tunisian Oil Office (ONH).
The oil office spokesman, Chokri Bayoudh said that despite the repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, Tunisia was able to maintain its advantage on global olive oil exports, with the European Union absorbing nearly 80% of its exports.

The North African country also remains the main oil exporter to Canada and the United States with 55,000 tons.
Tunisia exported 365,000 tons of olive oil for a total value of about 2,225 billion dinars (about 4.25% of the state budget for 2020), in 54 countries during the 2019-2020 campaign.
Tunisian olive oil production has reached a record during the harvesting campaign 2019-2020, of 400,000 tons, said Chokri, recalling that in terms of production Tunisia ranks second in the world after Spain, which produces between 40 and 60% of oil in the world, or 3 million tons. Tunisian production in 2019-2020 represented 12% of the world’s olive oil production.
